Film project

Here is the synopsis of Unnamed Project 1. The synopsis is a first draft. I will copy a version of a good synopsis.

Jackson Stewart returns home for the final venture. Having spent the last seven years having the "Trip of a Lifetime," Jackson discovers that although he fulfilled every aspect of his dream life, his life truly meant nothing. Having left his whole life behind, his best friend, his girlfriend, and his career, Jackson finds all as it should be. Soon he finds that he left an entire meaningful life behind. Yet, he just cannot get a grip on reality, on his reality. Despite the urges from his past life, Jackson finds no hope except in the ultimate silence.

Draft Story - untitled project

Disclaimer: this project is drafted on a Blackberry Curve using non-standard word processing programs.

---

The sounds of a young child can be heard throughout the cold silence of the misty-filled night. The city was quiet, not more than usual for a mid-Autumn night in St. Louis. But little Jerich pierced the night.

"Hush, little one," whispered Paul.
"He needs some milk," pleaded Jeanne. "I told you we ran out last night. Did you get some after work?"

A big sigh accidentally escaped his lips. If only he had some money to get some milk, he thought. Two hours earlier, the young father had spent several hours walking through downtown St. Louis looking for any fallen money--he had yet to begin begging. But that soon may be the only choice.

"Honey, I tried to get some, but the store was out of milk when I went by," Paul lied to Jeanne. "I will go back tomorrow; the manager said he'd have a shipment in tomorrow."
"But...", interrupted Jeane.
"Jeanne, I am sorry. I tried. Can't you use some of the water?"

Jeanne's eyes began to tear up as she thought about her baby. She turned away from Paul.

"There is only enough for the two of us."
"It'll be okay, Jeanne. Give him my share."
"Are you sure? I already ate something today. He can have mine."
"No!" yelled Paul. He noticed she was crying. "I mean, Jeanne, someone at work brought in food today for his, uh, birthday. I have eaten a lot today. Besides that what did you eat?"
"Um... A cracker."
"That's what I thought."

The Movie

So my analysis of the Golden Compass movie is as follows: crap! (This is not my blog on the trilogy)

The movie is so elementary and shallow.
Scenes progress in sequence without adequate information and transition. Most of the story line connections are either told right out by a narrator or a character.

The degree of intellect that the movie contains is quite low. Compared to the books where intelligence, understanding, and critical thinking are a must.

I was quite disappointed in the movie. However, the effects are okay. The movie is definitely only targeted at children as opposed to young adults such as the book.

Task #1

The task of choosing the first topic falls to me by some form of luck or order. Currently, I have been reading the "His Dark Materials" series by Phillip Pullman. I have finished The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife. I have yet to read The Amber Spyglass which will be read upon receipt of the book in the mail from my lovelier friend from the North.

After seeing all the media excitement and the movie production, I have decided to set this book series as Task #1. I challenge the deadline to be June 10th.

The Book Club

So today I am starting my first blog. I just want to introduce myself. My name is Jackson Stewart, and my friends and I have made this commitment. A commitment to staying in touch via an interesting method. A book club. Not just a system where books are read and discussed, but rather a way for discussions to be held about various topics. My friends and I have decided to rotate discussion topics which can be on any subject -- a book series, a news event, whatever.

Thus, this is the introduction to our book club -- enjoy.
