The Movie

So my analysis of the Golden Compass movie is as follows: crap! (This is not my blog on the trilogy)

The movie is so elementary and shallow.
Scenes progress in sequence without adequate information and transition. Most of the story line connections are either told right out by a narrator or a character.

The degree of intellect that the movie contains is quite low. Compared to the books where intelligence, understanding, and critical thinking are a must.

I was quite disappointed in the movie. However, the effects are okay. The movie is definitely only targeted at children as opposed to young adults such as the book.

Task #1

The task of choosing the first topic falls to me by some form of luck or order. Currently, I have been reading the "His Dark Materials" series by Phillip Pullman. I have finished The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife. I have yet to read The Amber Spyglass which will be read upon receipt of the book in the mail from my lovelier friend from the North.

After seeing all the media excitement and the movie production, I have decided to set this book series as Task #1. I challenge the deadline to be June 10th.

The Book Club

So today I am starting my first blog. I just want to introduce myself. My name is Jackson Stewart, and my friends and I have made this commitment. A commitment to staying in touch via an interesting method. A book club. Not just a system where books are read and discussed, but rather a way for discussions to be held about various topics. My friends and I have decided to rotate discussion topics which can be on any subject -- a book series, a news event, whatever.

Thus, this is the introduction to our book club -- enjoy.
